    Goodmorning Valentine - “Let’s Pretend”

With the only steady member of Goodmorning Valentine being lead-vocalist/guitarist/songwriter, Joey Beltram, it doesn’t make too much sense to delve into the Cleveland band’s lineup. What I can say about the band, though, is that their influences are clear and very much up my alley. The current lineup of the band* just spent a week in a basement recording a short (under 30min) album called Sputnik. The album sports an overall folky feel with influences that range from 60s/70s hippie-folk to a more modern Wilco-like feel.

This song, the third track on the album, has a guitar/piano hook you’ll find yourself tapping along to, uses horns to perfection, and conjures images of Van Morrison that are just right for a Sunday afternoon.

Joey is currently on a tour of the western US and if he’s coming through your area, I highly recommend you stop in a give him a listen.

    * full disclosure: Tuneage’s own Dave Koen played on the songs that make up Sputnik, but for what it’s worth, I’d post this band even if he hadn’t played with them.

    Good jam.
