To Tug Hearts, Music First Must Tickle the Neurons
This is why the slight drum change at the 3:40 mark makes the song for me.
JEFF the Brotherhood—“Ripper”
Bonus reading: Jonah Lehrer’s Proust Was a Neuroscientist for related reading on Stravinsky.

Nine of those songs would perfectly in a movie party scene, when the main character takes a huge bong rip, and looks up and exhales just as the babe he has a crush on walks through the door—in slow motion.

Ty Segall, discussing the new JEFF the Brotherhood album We Are The Champions before his Gargoyle show. (Listen to this and imagine it. He’s totally right.)
Bonus fact: Ty was in the same graduating class as the cast of Laguna Beach, and told me that Kristin Cavallari was the nicest cast member and was unfairly portrayed by the show’s producers. Also that MTV destroyed the last remnants of Laguna Beach’s 60s beatnik history.
Anyone following this blog for a decent amount of time knows that JEFF the Brotherhood is one of my favorite bands. I just finished up some super-trippy posters for the occasion: white ink on Wausau “Rocket Red,” then laser cut.
Expect to see a lot more laser cut stuff from me. I have a growing addiction.
JEFF the Brotherhood — “Mind Ride”
This song rocks so freaking hard.
Jeff The Brotherhood - U Got The Look
These guys were my favorite part of the aforementioned Screaming Females and Daniel Pujol show last week at the Gargoyle. Pure rock.
For even purer rock, track them down at a house party next time you’re in Nashville. Vicious.
